Whistling Wolf Café: Multiplayer Edition is now Restricted for Updates!

Hey everyone! I just wanted to let you know that I've restricted access to Whistling Wolf Café: Multiplayer Edition until I can finalize the rules and get them published. If you have purchased this game, you will still have full access to the page to download it. Everyone else will need to wait for now.

When I initially made the multiplayer version, I didn't give myself much time to playtest it. I thought it could translate from solo to multiplayer with the ease of most of my Mission games going from multiplayer to solo; have everyone bring their own deck and have it play as solo, but add a few cards for a bit of added interaction. When I finally got the chance to play it with some friends, I found out just how horribly wrong I was.

I apologize to those who have already downloaded the game. I understand now that it's very clunky, gangly, and can be a downright pain to play. I have been working on it on again and off again for, goodness, about a year or so now.

The rules are more attuned to multiplayer gameplay and the interaction between players is more significant. They're still not quite where I want them to be; it's mainly small things now, like how to design a board that would include a way to keep track of money, what hour you're on, and integrating the optional Event cards more smoothly. I can see the finish line from here, though.

I also created custom cards since having four people needing to constantly refer to the instructions for what cards mean what slows the game down quite a bit. I'm currently working with a commissioned artist to bring some lovely illustrations to the cards, and currently all the Shop Cards and Event Cards are illustrated. I'm even opening up artist spots for the Customer Cards; buyers can have their own image on the card, or the image of a character of their own creation.

All this is to say, progress is being made. Has been made quite some time now. It's had to come slowly, but it's something I'm passionate about. Whistling Wolf Café is one of my favorite games that we've created, and the multiplayer versions deserves all this time and effort. So why restrict access now?

Because each and every time I see it, I feel guilty for its mistreatment. I feel embarrassed that I didn't deliver a better product to all of you. I feel like I should have done better before I ever published it, and I wince when I see the numbers that have been downloaded already.

So for my own mental health and in the hope of delivering a game that's more worthy of you, I have restricted access. Once I get the newest version published, I will reopen this game with a celebration, and make sure none of you miss out.

Thank you for your patience and understanding,
Laura aka Mama Newt
